A small but tight-knitted network is better than a large but unhelpful network. Having said that, you might grow in your career to a point where your core team cannot provide you with the resources you are seeking. You will then need to expand your network.
Generally there are vertical and horizontal networks you can develop. In my post “WHO SHOULD I HAVE IN MY NETWORK?” I suggested mainly strategies to build horizontal networks, consisting mainly of other tutors.
