Leaders eat last.
Leaders speak last.
Leaders quit last.
Leaders eat last because they care for their people. They want to make sure everybody under their care gets enough. If there is not enough to go around, leaders would rather starve.
Leaders speak last because they know they may not be the smartest in the room. They want to listen to everyone’s views and consider them soundly. They want everyone to have the time and space to be heard. They want the team to own the outcome of a conversation, not just to the leaders’ bidding.
Leaders quit last, if they ever quit at all. They are the ones who go down with the ship. They are the ones who will take the last stand even if everybody believes it’s a lost cause. Because they believe in their mission so deeply.
